LiveScan fingerprinting is required for a variety of positions, including those in public, transportation and private industries. While the entire process is very easy, there are a few things you should be aware of to make the background check go more smoothly, and so you know what to expect.
Faster Response Times
LiveScan fingerprinting delivers much faster response times over inked prints, so you will not have to wait for more than 72 hours in most cases for the results to come back. As this fingerprinting method isn’t subjected to the issues surrounding traditional ink prints, the digitized process is much faster and smoother than background checks in the past.
There may be times when a response is delayed for some reason. If this occurs, the Department of Justice will contact the requesting party and apprise them of the situation. In these situations, the results are sent as quickly as possible after the issue has been cleared up.
While LiveScan fingerprinting is considerably more efficient that the traditional inking method, there may be times when the prints do not go through clearly. If this occurs, you will need to have another LiveScan conducted. You are only required to resubmit prints twice. If the prints still do not go through clearly, the Department of Justice will use other means to verify your identity so that the state and national background check can be completed.
You can check the status on your LiveScan submission by calling the number given to you by the provider. You will need to make sure you have all of your information available when you call, which includes:
- Your birthdate
- The 10-digit ATI number from the bottom of the LiveScan request form
This will help you determine whether your LiveScan prints have been processed, or whether they are still pending.
If you change employers and require another LiveScan, you can’t transfer your previous results from one requesting agency to another. You will need to go through the process again.
LiveScan fingerprinting provides many benefits, and being aware of this information will ensure that you understand the entire process. If you have any questions about LiveScan fingerprinting, please feel free to contact us for assistance.
